A streak of warm light fell on Aditi’s facial curves, she detached the rubber-band from her hair and let it drop against the shafts.
Sunday mornings bear with its arrival the sense of tranquility of not rushing which narrates her other days. She took her phone and dived into the abyss of the virtual world, running her fingertips over the brightly lit white screen. She has to make her breakfast, in days like this, She did wish the cartoons from her infant days and the fable of fairy-godmother was tangible. She proceeded towards the miniscule kitchen keeping aside the daydreams of bluff hallucinations.
Incognizantly, She brushed aside a lock of her hair behind her ears, and a sound of bell alarmed her from her drowsy consciousness. During weekends, She isn’t much fond of any guests or the parties or anything that seizes her solitude, a time that consisted of her only.
It was a indeed a queer thing for her to receive guests on sunday. She perhaps was unaware of the unexpected arrival of the one who got away.
A pair of brown eyes, the similar radiant orb that she was once familiar with, was standing near her doorstep,an inch apart from where she is. She wanted to laugh, in a mix of joy and irony.
‘Should I start reacting or sobbing at the abrupt advent of my old friend?’,a hint of sarcasm perceptible in Aditi’s voice.
‘Dancing with the tune of a sleazy bollywood song will do’, Aadavan’s colossal eyes now pluckish with satire.
‘That’s a contemplative remark coming from an anti-bollywood fellow, who also happened to be the notorious ex’, Aditi said.
‘Am I that notorious that I won’t be graced with a seat also, Adi’, Aadavan asserted while taking a deep breath.
‘Come on in, you caricature of a museum’, Aditi grinning while shutting the door.
Aditi quickly turned her gaze towards Aadavan, his hair transmuted into a malnutritioned thread, and eyes that could clash with a Raccoon’s eyes.
‘Lord something of somewhere, what’s the occasion of your gracious appearance in this boxy apartment of mine?’ Aditi’s one hand rested upon her cheek, her mind perplexed in some way.
‘Confession’, he blurted out these words in a flash, and fixing his heed on the searing coffee.
‘You’ve finally done a murder. I am proud of you ex. At Least you’ve done a functional thing with your life’
He seems unfazed by her taunting. Aditi sat across the sofa facing Aadavan, dazed by the fact that even months have transformed into distant years , Aadavan is a tough cookie to comprehend, still.
‘You reminisce the time of our final of second year of Graduation and the days of fatigue and insomnia that become our soulmates along with books, which we were getting acquainted with then. And the results that came out a little after.’
Aditi’s bewildered stare didn’t make any entrance in Aadavan’s mind.
‘You were unable to qualify that year, fell into a bottomless profundity that demolished your lively spirit. I was the one who was to be accused for what you have gone through’, Aadavan’s hazel eyes hurled a scene of a sunless day.
Aditi’s eyelids fluttering rapidly, but there is no display of maim that is visible.
‘I am not worthy of your pardon. But maybe, I was the victim of my own envy, my insecurity consumed my own self, I broke into the Professor’s room late at night with the assistance of some people, and removed your roll number and name and wrote my name in the answer sheet of yours.’, Aditi’s silence exasperating him.
‘Peanut butter for breakfast?’, Aditi’s voice unvaried.
‘Won’t you yell at me?’ Aadavan felt vexed on himself, why Aditi isn’t.
‘There is an interpretation or proper meaning of past’, Aadavan.’ Aaditi smiled with an emotion undiscovered to her.
‘It will be a error of you if you took it as mercy, for Mercy I no longer hold for you, nor treachery for what you told me or what you’ve done in the faraway past. You have your damnation detached from my care and love all these years, and my blessing is to be out of your sight.’
‘Distance may be to some, a crestfallen place but to me It took me to my own self, which in your shadow, I became your twin. I had scarcely knew of my own disposition. It wasn’t my fault I conjecture, People are strangest in love.’
Aadvan’s lips parted to utter a word ‘Sorry’ but he grasped the inevitable truth that people change to an extent we could do nothing but gawk at them.
A sense of sin was hovering over Aadavan’s mind after his engagement and his relationship with Keya and her benevolent self made him question his worth, a confession to Aditi he thought all these years but never had the spine to assert honesty when his blood was scarlet with deceit.
‘Next month is my wedding. I would love if you can come’ Aaadvan said.
‘I don’t wish to appear as a crazy ex at your wedding, and that week I am heading towards Manali with my friends.’
‘You are not engaged?, Aadavan inquired in a hurry.
‘Well, some people have to stay true to the promise we made in college that we are the anti-marriage ones. I am contend with poppy,my dog and my lifeline.’
‘I have to go.Take care adi.’
‘Give my love to keya.’ Aditi’s red hair glowing in a ruby shade under the sun.
She broke in a chaste smile, the memory of the first day of college travelled through his mind.
Aadati shut the door and took a seat on the kitchen counter, humming a song….
‘Don’t worry about me
I have got another hour so to kill
Don’t worry about me
I’ll find another place to begin
It’s so redundant
Have faith, have patience my life
To know we trip the rest is yet to come.’
She looked at the distant bird flying towards the mother-earth as she watched her own past dissolving in the glitters of her present, She smiled softly, her eyes dancing in the sunlit afternoon.
Wow, incredible! It brought tears in my eyes for the profound feelings and the subtle way of writing was so good that it touched my heart! Excellent. 😊

It’s one of my favorite scenes,I felt a unique sense of liberation when Rani walked out of the house of her fiancée(Should I say Ex),The ability to let go of someone we love might be excruciating, but to feel a little sunshine one has to bear a little rain also.

So many marvelous turns of phrases & descriptions. I love how it didn’t just end with marriage being automatically the thing she wants most 🙂
